Today I want to talk about advertising. I understand as a small audio video business, advertising can get overwhelming (not to mention expensive). There are so many options out there where does a small shop start? You've probably tried advertising in the past, maybe you've advertised at a Parade of Homes, a Home and Garden Show, thrown some money at Google Adwords, or tried services like HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack. The reality is that you can't do it all. We must choose which path to take, because if we can only give a half-hearted effort to multiple channels, the odds of having any success at all are slim. However, there's a 600 lb. Gorilla in the room that you're ignoring. It's social media, and more importantly Facebook. You probably already have a Facebook page, and you probably check it multiple times a day. I've got some shocking news for you, so do your customers. In fact, most customers check multiple social media accounts every day. But if we have to choose only one for maximum impact, the choice is clear..... Facebook. Don't believe me? Here are my TOP 3 REASONS YOU SHOULD ADVERTISE ON FACEBOOK: #1. Your Customers are on Facebook In May 2017, Facebook reported having 1.9 Billion users, they also reported that 1.28 Billion of them use Facebook every day accounting for 22 Billion ad clicks every day. I'm not a math magician, but that's a lot. Bottom line is this, Facebook is providing businesses with the largest opportunity to grow their businesses since Al Gore started the internet. 🙂 #2. Advertising on Facebook is Cheap! Seriously, you can customize your spending however you'd like. But you need to spend at least $1 per day. (If you don't have $30 to spare per month, you shouldn't be in business) The days of your business getting organic traction are gone and they're not coming back. (Check out the chart below) The good news is, even if you're strapped for cash you can manage a decent Facebook campaign.
They can reach as many people or more people as radio or TV, and in whatever country.
They have sophisticated targeting like AdWords, albeit on different criteria.
The minimum spend is just $1 per day.
They are the lowest cost per 1,000 impressions ad in history. They average around $0.25 per 1,000, which is only 1% of the cost of TV. Are you kidding me? Nope, it's for real.
How much will $1 a day get you? If you spend $1 a day, you'll get in front of 4000 people that wouldn't have known about you otherwise. If your competitors aren't doing it, you win the name recognition game.
#3. Targeting capabilities are ridiculously good.
Along with the ability to display different types of ads, the ability to drill down and target your potential customers is ridiculously good. Are you a Control4 or SONOS dealer? both companies have some of the best video ads I've ever seen. A combination of those ads, and Facebook could be a deadly combination for your competition.
It's not all peaches and cream though, advertising on Facebook takes time during the day. Time that you may not have, after all you're busy saving the world from bad audio and video.
If you're interested in starting a Facebook Ad Campaign or have more questions, maybe you're creatively challenged, or simply don't know where to begin. You can start here, I'll handle the heavy lifting for you.
